Turning Over a New Leaf This Fall

Categories: Books, Events, News & Updates, Teens

Hi! I’m Catherine, your new teen services person. I’ve enjoyed meeting many of you since my start in August, and I look forward to meeting more of you throughout the fall!

I was at Fan Expo this past weekend; I was overwhelmed by all the amazing displays and costumes I saw. If you see me in the library, I’d love to chat about your fandom interests and experiences. You can find me on the information desk most Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, and I’m always happy to help you find your next read, watch or game.

It’s suddenly time for sweaters, hot drinks and textbooks again. If you need a break from the fall rush, stop by for free WiFi and an armchair by the window, or for one of our upcoming teen programs.

Our next Teen Advisory Group meeting happens on Thursday, September 14 at 5:30 p.m. in the Program Room on the main floor at 175 Mostar. We would love to hear your ideas and opinions about your library’s services, programs and collections. (Also, there’s a rumour that Skittles may be involved…)

If you’re interested iTTT logon voting for your favourite read, or finding a new one, check out the novels that are up for nomination to become 2017’s Teens’ Top Ten. This program is for teens across North America to vote for their favourite  reads of the past year from a shortlist of 26 books. You can find these books in our catalogue when you search for “Teens’ Top Ten.” We will soon have a link to vote for the books on our Teen Programs web page. In the meantime, you can get a sneak peek at http://www.ala.org/yalsa/teenstopten.

We kick off Teen Read Week right after Thanksgiving this October, from the 10th to the 15th. This year’s theme is Unleash Your Story. We have free books to give away, fine forgiveness, free library card replacement, a drop-in night with Nintendo Switch, board games, ping pong, and DIY journals, capped off with a drop-in robotics program.

Wishing you a great start to the school year and looking forward to meeting you soon,

Catherine
