Find out more about the community involvement requirement for York Region District School Board students. Teens can start getting their hours in the summer before Grade 9! Look at Volunteer Canada, Free the Children or the Get Your Hours site and app for more ideas.
WSPL has lots of volunteer opportunities for teens:
Teen Advisory Group: Help us provide great services for teens at WSPL! Have fun with other teens! Give feedback on teen collections, programs, and special events. Meets monthly, Thursday afternoons.
Write Reviews: Get an hour added to your volunteer tally for writing an (edited, 300 word) review of a new teen book owned by the library, for posting on our Recommended Reads page. Send reviews to Faith.
Chess Club Assistant: Help with the Monday afternoon (4-5) Chess Club. Sharpen your skills and have fun with kids.
Summer Reading Program: Apply to help with our summer-long reading program, reading with participants and entering their data.
General Volunteers: Projects around the Library may include removing, scanning, and hauling books; tech assistance; reading buddies for younger children.
The Leisure Department also has some opportunities for teens to volunteer, from ongoing help to one-day help with special events, and an orientation for volunteers every few months. Check the Leisure Guide for dates and call 905-640-PLAY for more information.
